Plate heat exchangers for industrial applications

SWEP and ARES plate heat exchangers are manufactured in a wide range of configurations, pressures and materials. Therefore, they are widely used in many industrial applications.

Pressure classes

To achieve different pressure classes, the plates can have different thicknesses: most often 0.4 to 0.6 mm. Most SWEP plate heat exchangers are designed for pressures around 45 bar, a range of 10 to 140 bar is available. Gasketed ARES heat exchangers are usually built for a pressure of 10 bar, they are also available in 25 bar versions.

Materials

The plates are standardly made of AISI 316 steel. If the media do not contain chlorides or florides, cheaper AISI 304 steel might be used. Titanium or SMO 254 plates are available for special applications (acids, chemicals, aggressive or abrasive media).

Compact SWEP plate heat exchangers are brazed and copper solder is used to connect the plates. Copper may react with some media. Therefore, for many models, you can choose nickel solder, or even all-stainless steel design (without solder). All-stainless steel design is also suitable for high temperatures.

ARES gasketed heat exchangers use rubber seals instead of solder. As a result, they can be disassembled for cleaning, repair or expansion. The choice of gaskets depends on the media used and on the operating temperatures. EPDM, NBR and Viton are most often installed.

Performance optimization for heat exchanger design

Sometimes customers replace or expand their existing installations. They are often surprised by the high efficiency of our exchangers and at the same time the purchase prices are usually half or lower. SWEP is a global manufacturer and the pressure tests of each manufactured heat exchanger guarantee the highest quality and reliability.

ARES heat exchanger corrugation patterns

Combinations of H, M, L plates (high, medium, low theta) can also be selected for larger versions of heat exchangers. This designation describes the arrangement of the channels between the plates. Type H has the highest efficiency for heat transfer, but with higher pressure losses. By combining the channels, the arrangement in the exchanger can be optimized and thus achieve the required output and pressure losses. The shape and number of plates are selected by the software from the manufacturer. Please request that we do a calculation for you to find the most effective configuration for your project. Ports and connections

SWEP flange DN100

Users usually choose an external thread or flanges for installation. SWEP flanges DN50, DN65 and DN100 are not according to the DIN/ISO standard and therefore SWEP also supplies counter-flanges for them. The SWEP manufacturer is flexible and the exchangers are available with many types of connections: eg. an internal thread, solder or welding outlets, victaulic and more. ARES gasketed heat exchangers have an internal or external thread on smaller models and flanges DN65 to DN300 for larger units.

Industrial applications of plate heat exchangers

The application of heat exchangers in industry is very wide, eg.

  • gas cooling,
  • industrial water cooling,
  • industrial oil coolers (hydraulic, engine, transmission),
  • cooling of chemicals and aggressive media (galvanizing plants),
  • steam/water, steam/air heaters,
  • food industry, refrigeration and freezing units,
  • CO2 applications,
  • air conditioning, ventilation and heating of industrial halls and office buildings,
  • water/water, steam/water and other heating stations.
